Curriculum Intent
At St George’s CE Primary School, we believe mathematics is an important part of children’s development in order to live ‘life in all its fullness’. These skills begin at an early age and continue throughout education.
Through the teaching and learning of mathematics, we aim to deliver a curriculum that enables all children to Believe, Belong and Flourish.
Believe: we want every child to see themselves as a mathematician. By following the White Rose Maths scheme and a mastery approach, children are supported to build confidence, resilience, and perseverance when faced with challenges. They are encouraged to believe in their ability to succeed and to approach problems with curiosity and creativity.
Belong: mathematics is a language that connects us all. At St. George's, every child is entitled to high-quality teaching and learning opportunities in mathematics. We follow the National Curriculum, ensuring that all pupils can access engaging, inclusive, and carefully sequenced lessons that build on prior knowledge. Our pupils know they belong to a supportive classroom environment where mistakes are valued as learning opportunities, and collaboration helps everyone move forward together
Flourish: we strive for all children to flourish in mathematics, making rich connections across mathematical ideas so that they can develop fluency, reasoning, and problem solving skills. Pupils are given opportunities to apply their knowledge across the curriculum and understand how mathematics underpins our daily lives. This equips them to flourish, not only in their next stage of education but also in the wider world.
Our aim is to ensure every child leaves St. George's with a deep, secure, and adaptable understanding of mathematics helping to prepare them for the challenges of the future and ready to flourish as confident learners.
