School with a ‘strong focus on nurturing the whole child’ celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted rating
Staff and pupils at St George’s CE Primary School, Worcester are delighted to be judged as a ‘Good’ school following their most recent Ofsted inspection.
After Ofsted visited in October this year, the school have received a ‘Good’ rating in all areas of the inspection report.
Inspectors said: “Leaders promote the school’s inclusive and Christian values of respect, perseverance, compassion and friendship. These are carefully woven through all aspects of school life.
“The school has a strong focus on nurturing the whole child.
“Senior leaders have been relentless in making improvements since the previous inspection. They want the very best for the pupils.”
The report went on to say that:
“Pupils feel safe and appreciate how much the adults at school care about them. They value teachers listening to them. They say they can talk to the teachers about anything that interests them or bothers them.”
Inspectors recognised pupils’ good behaviour and noted that: “Pupils make friends easily because they are kind to each other. Bullying is rare. When it does happen, adults deal with it quickly.”
The report praised the “ambitious curriculum” that the school have developed and said that pupils were “inspired through topics, such as ‘Extreme Environments’ and the ‘Stone Ages’.” Reception staff were recognised as planning activities which built effectively on previous learning so that children demonstrated “a wide range of mathematical knowledge and competence from an early age.”
Commenting on the inclusive and supportive nature of the school, inspectors said:
“Staff have a clear understanding of the needs of individuals. Careful identification supports leaders in ensuring that vulnerable pupils and those with SEND receive tailored provision.
“Staff adapt learning to enable all pupils to access a broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils with SEND achieve well.”
The report also highlighted the school’s strong pastoral support:
“Leaders are tenacious in securing the right support for pupils from external agencies. This gets pupils the help they need.
“Staff know how to identify pupils who may need help with their mental or emotional health. Leaders put this support in place quickly.”
Headteacher, Louise Norris, said: “I am very pleased to be able to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. I feel it is a real validation of the hard work the staff put into the school. It accurately reflects what we as a school feel is important: caring for the whole child and supporting every aspect of development to ensure children become independent learners who are resilient in the world.
The staff, governors and I are all proud to belong to the St George’s family and are pleased that our commitment to our whole community has been recognised in this way. Our parents have been so supportive of us throughout process and I would like to say a thank you to them too. All our children matter and we strive endlessly to do our very best for each of them.”
Chair of Governors, Darren Phillips, said: “The Governors are delighted with this Ofsted report. It is a real validation of the relentless drive for improvement by all of the staff – we’re very lucky to have such an amazing and committed team at St George’s. The result confirms what we already knew: St George’s is a great school!”
